Local cultures are characterized as forms of intellectual property that may lead local rural economies to impose some level of control over social and economic development. In the cultural domain. Western Greece allocates important comparative advantages, that concern particularly appreciable archaeological and Byzantine spaces and discoveries, such as the Ancient Olympia, the Venetian Castles etc.. the Patra Carnival, which can characterize the Region as a cultural centre of the wider area. In the region of Puglia there are magnificent churches and palaces, witnesses of the historical heritage and of a cultures crossroad. Sicily strong cultural traditions can be seen in the development of Italian lyrical poetry as well as in the works of modern writers. Several examples of folk art-such as embroidery, painting, and puppetry-and popular religious festivals mark Sicily contribution to Italian culture.
